HZB International Summer Program 2026 in Germany (Fully Funded) - Are you ready to spend your summer of 2026 in Berlin?

Are you ready to spend your summer in Germany in 2026? Applications are now open for the HZB International Summer Program 2026. This fully funded eight-week summer program will take place in Berlin from July 6 to August 28, 2026, at the HZB campus in Berlin. Fellows will have the opportunity to work on their own research project in close collaboration with HZB scientists in the field. A great thing about the HZB International Summer Program (ISSP) is that there are no application fees or IELTS requirements , and applicants from all over the world are eligible to apply. Each year, 20 undergraduate and graduate students participate in the summer program in Germany to work and conduct research on projects with HZB scientists. More details are below.

Financial benefits

The HZB summer program will cover the following:

  • Non-European countries:
    • Total allowances (meals, accommodation, etc.): €1900
    • Travel/flight fare (up to): €800
  • European countries:
    • Total allowances (meals, accommodation, etc.): 1000 euros
    • Travel/flight fare (up to): 200 euros
  • Accommodation costs are also covered for everyone.

Areas of the HZB Summer Program

Participants will work with scientists in the following areas:

Photonics, photovoltaics, solar cells/catalytics, electrochemical energy storage, quantum and functional materials, and accelerator research.

Eligibility criteria

  • Open to all students from all countries. EU and non-EU students are welcome to apply.
  • You must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate student in a relevant field such as physics, chemistry, materials science, structural biology, mathematics, engineering, life sciences, environmental sciences, or a related major.
  • You must have completed at least two years of full-time university-level study.
  • You must be available to participate fully in the program for the entire duration.
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • You will need to submit a letter of recommendation from a professor or researcher familiar with your academic work.

Program Terms

  • Participation for the entire duration is mandatory.
  • Working time: 40 hours/week.
  • An 8-week training contract to work on your project.
