Scholarship coverage

Birkbeck International Scholarships offer the following scholarship amounts to their recipients:

  • £5,000 (tuition fees only, first year only)
  • £2,000 (tuition fees only, first year only)
  • £1,500 (tuition fees only, first year only)
  • £1000 (tuition fees only, first year only).

Note: General Terms and Conditions: Scholarships cannot be combined with any other full scholarship (e.g., Chevening). You must pay a non-refundable deposit of £2,000 within two weeks of being selected for the scholarship.

Eligibility criteria

To be eligible for a Birkbeck International Scholarship, a candidate must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Required language:  English
  • Eligible countries: Africa (Sub-Saharan Africa), Asia (Central Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, East Asia), Caribbean, Latin America, Middle East and North Africa.
  • You are a fee-paying international student studying abroad and hold an unconditional offer for a full-time undergraduate or postgraduate course offered by Birkbeck, commencing in Autumn 2025. You must be assessed as a fee-paying international student to be eligible.
  • You are normally resident in a country in the relevant region. 
  • You are self-funded.
  • You have been classified as an "international" tuition fee payer.
  • Only one scholarship may be awarded per student, and the scholarship cannot normally be awarded in conjunction with any other scholarship.

How to apply for international scholarships at Birkbeck?

Please follow the application instructions below to apply for international scholarships at Birkbeck:

(1) Check the general admission requirements and apply to the university here .

(2) Once you have an unconditional offer from Birkbeck, you can apply using the online application form for the area where you usually live.

(3) Successful applicants will be selected based on a statement of no more than 4,000 characters in support of their application. The statement must explain why they are the ideal candidate for the scholarship.

(4) If you are successfully awarded this scholarship, you will be notified by email. You must pay a non-refundable deposit of £200 within the period specified in the award letter (usually five working days).

(5) You must successfully register for the Fall 2025 session to receive the award, and no later than September 7, 2025.
