The Central South University Scholarship 2026-2027 is a fully-funded scholarship for international students. These scholarships are available to undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students. They cover tuition fees, on-campus housing, medical insurance, and a monthly stipend.

Scholarship Coverage

The Central South University scholarship will provide:

  • Full Scholarship: Covering tuition fees, on-campus accommodation, medical insurance fees, and monthly stipend (3,000 RMB for each master's student and 3,500 RMB for each doctoral student).
  • Partial scholarship: covering tuition fees, on-campus accommodation, and medical insurance fees

Eligibility Criteria for Central South University Scholarship

To qualify for a Central South University scholarship, a candidate must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Language Requirements: Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must have a minimum HSK4 score of 220 for science and engineering programs and a minimum HSK4 score of 260 for arts, social sciences, and medicine programs (for Bachelor's degrees in Chinese Language and Literature, a minimum HSK5 score of 200). Students who cannot meet the Chinese proficiency requirement must take a one-year Chinese language preparatory course and meet the above HSK requirement before starting their programs. Applicants for English-taught programs must have a minimum IELTS score of 6 or TOEFL score of 85.
    Those who meet one of the following requirements are exempt from proving their language proficiency:
    a) Applicants whose first language or the official language of the country is Chinese or English.
    b) Applicants who are enrolled in a degree program where the language of instruction is Chinese or English.
  • Eligible countries:  All countries of the world
  • Excellent non-Chinese citizens, with no criminal records and in good health.
  • To apply for a bachelor's degree, applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be between 18 and 25 years old. To apply for a master's degree, applicants must have a bachelor's degree or equivalent and be between 18 and 35 years old. To apply for a doctoral degree, applicants must have a master's degree or equivalent and be between 18 and 40 years old. Applicants under the age of 18 must be at least 16 years old and have a qualified guardian residing in China.
  • Applicants for graduate programs are required to have a strong academic background and innovative research capabilities.

How to apply for a Central South University scholarship?

Please follow the application instructions below to apply for the Central South University Scholarship:

(1) Create an account on the university website and start filling the application.

(2) Submit the following required materials for application to the university:

  • Passport copy (available for more than one year)
  • Photocopy of Physical Examination Record .pdf. Applicants should strictly be examined in accordance with the requirement of Physical Examination Record for Foreigner. An incomplete form is regarded as invalid. The examination date shall be after October 1, 2024.
  • A certified copy of your most recent graduation certificate or a notarized translation into Chinese/English. If you are a current student, you must also submit a pre-graduation certificate issued by your school.
  • A sealed copy of the highest university degree or a notarized copy translated into Chinese or English.
  • A criminal record or document translated into Chinese/English and stamped with an official seal. Issued after October 1, 2024.
  • A copy of your HSK certificate for Chinese-taught programs, IELTS/TOEFL certificate for English-taught programs, or other documents proving your language proficiency.
  • Two separate letters of recommendation from professors/associate professors with detailed contact information. Signed after October 1, 2024 (for graduate applicants only).
  • A study plan of at least 800 words. Please explain the background, methodology, content, significance, etc. of your research (for graduate applicants only).
  • Published essays or any other supporting materials, e.g. Acceptance Letter Format .doc(only for graduate applicants)

(3) The College of International Education will conduct a preliminary review of the applicant's identity, language ability, physical and mental condition, etc. When applicants pass the preliminary review, pay the application fee of 500 RMB on the California State University Unified Payment Platform according to the email (WeChat, Alipay, and UnionPay are available);

Please complete the application fee payment within two weeks, otherwise your application will not be processed. If you fail the initial review, you do not need to pay the application fee.

(4) Academic Review : Relevant schools will conduct an academic review of applicants to comprehensively examine their academic background, scientific research capabilities, or innovative potential.

5) Result Announcement : Based on the application status and review, the final admission result will be announced via email. Final financial aid is based on the email received. In addition, the admission notification and visa application form will be sent accordingly. The International Student Services System at California State University, China will be notified of the application status. Please check your inbox in the application system and your email in a timely manner.

6) Annual Review : All scholarship students are subject to an annual review based on their academic and daily performance during the previous academic year. The student continues to benefit from the scholarship after passing the review. Otherwise, the scholarship is suspended.

Note:

(a) The above materials shall be submitted in English or Chinese. Materials in any other language must be documented in both Chinese or English.

(b) Applicants (one or both of whose parents are Chinese citizens residing overseas) born of foreign nationality and applying for admission as an international student must have a valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than four years, and have an overseas residence record of more than two years within the past four years (as of April 30 of the year of admission) (an actual residence of 9 months per year can be counted as one year). The calculation is based on entry and exit stamps. Proof of renunciation of Chinese nationality is required.

(c) Application fees and course materials will not be refunded regardless of admission results. Most potential candidates will be admitted based on their application materials. Final financial support is based on the acceptance email, not the system interface or application interface. Please review the email you receive.  

(d) The winter break runs from January 26 to February 27, 2025, and application reviews will be postponed accordingly. The initial review typically takes two to four weeks, and the academic review date is usually determined by the school concerned.
