The Hubei Government Scholarship 2026-2027 is a fully funded scholarship for international students. Initial funding of 35 million yuan (US$5 million) is provided by the Beijing Municipal Education Commission. The scholarship is divided into three categories, with the highest value being 40,000 yuan (US$5,700) per recipient.

Hubei is one of the most developed provinces in education and scientific research. It has more than 120 higher education institutions, including two universities among the top ten universities in China (Wuhan University and Huazhong University of Science and Technology), and seven major universities included in the National Project 211. By the end of 2010, the number of undergraduate students in Hubei's higher education institutions reached 1.4 million, and 103,000 postgraduate students.

Hubei government grant coverage

Hubei government scholarships can be categorized into 5 types:

  1. The university scholarship is worth 10,000 yen per year.
  2. The value of the postgraduate scholarship is 15,000 Chinese yuan per year.
  3. The PhD scholarship is worth 20,000 Chinese yuan per year.
  4. The Public Researcher Grant is worth 5,000 Chinese yuan every 6 months or 10,000 Chinese yuan annually;
  5. The grant for advanced researchers (including visiting researchers, similarly hereafter) is worth US$10,000 every 6 months or US$20,000 every year.

Eligibility criteria for Hubei government scholarship

To qualify for the Hubei government scholarship, candidates must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Language requirements: The language proficiency requirement for applicants depends on the requirements of the academic programs and is determined by each higher education institution individually.
  • Eligible countries:  All countries except Chinese citizens.
  • Applicants must be foreign nationals with a valid passport and must be friendly towards China.
  • Applicants must be well-behaved, hardworking, have excellent grades, and be in good health.
  • Applicants for the Bachelor's scholarship must be around 25 years old and have a degree equivalent to or higher than a Chinese high school diploma.
  • Applicants for the postgraduate scholarship must be around 30 years of age and hold a bachelor's degree.
  • Applicants for the PhD scholarship must be around 35 years of age and hold a master's degree.
  • The average age of all applicants for the General Scholars Grant must be 40 years. Chinese language scholars must have a high school diploma or higher, and professional scholars must have a bachelor's degree or higher, or be sophomores or higher.
  • Applicants for the Advanced Researchers Grant must have a master's degree or higher and the title of associate professor or higher, and their average age must be 50 years.
  • Applicants do not receive any financial assistance from the Chinese government or any other organizations.
  • Meeting the admission requirements of the university and the program applied for.
