The Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Program is available to Egyptian students pursuing undergraduate or master's studies at top American universities. These scholarships are awarded based on character and merit, as demonstrated by academic excellence, entrepreneurial initiative, and extracurricular activities. The scholarships include full tuition, a living allowance, travel, and health insurance. Recipients also have the opportunity to intern at the company.

Orascom Construction launched the Onsi Sawiris Programme in 2000 to invest the company's resources in educational programmes that improve the lives of the communities in which it operates. This programme serves as an exemplary model in Egypt for meaningful private sector participation in educational programmes. The programme aims to support the academic development and character building of Egyptian youth, providing them with the tools necessary to advance their careers and, in turn, serve the communities in which they live.

Preference is given to candidates who have not lived, studied, or worked abroad for an extended period. The Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Program is available only to the following universities: the University of Chicago, Stanford University, Harvard University, and the University of Pennsylvania.

Eligibility Criteria for the Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Program

To be eligible for the Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Programme, you must:

For undergraduate students:

  • To be an Egyptian citizen, i.e., a resident of Egypt (preference will not be given to applicants with dual citizenship).
  • They plan to start their studies in the USA in 2025.
  • - Commitment to return to Egypt for two years immediately after successfully completing the bachelor’s degree.
  • I have not lived abroad for more than 3 years.
  • iBT TOEFL Test: 100 or higher
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5/90% in the General Secondary Certificate (second secondary grade) or its equivalent
  • Minimum SAT I score:
    • Old SAT (before May 2017): Total: 2100 Reading: 700 Math: 700 Writing: 700
    • New SAT (after May 2017): Total: 1450, Evidence-Based Reading and Writing: 730, Math: 730
  • Or SAT II in 3 subjects: 600 or higher.
  • Do some extracurricular activities.

For Master's:

  • - To be an Egyptian citizen and resident in Egypt (preference will be given to non-dual nationals).
  • Plan to pursue a master's degree at a top US university in business or engineering.
  • I have not lived abroad for more than 3 years.
  • - Commitment to return to Egypt for two years immediately after completing the bachelor’s degree.
  • TOEFL: iBT = 100 or higher
  • GPA: 3.5 / Very Good or higher (overall grade)
  • - Work experience of not less than three years.
  • MBA—GMAT: 650 or higher (obtained within 5 years)
  • Extracurricular Activities They have participated or are currently participating in extracurricular activities.
  • Old GRE scores are no longer accepted.
  • New GRE Scores: Minimum Acceptable
    • Total: 302
    • Analytical Writing: 4.5

Important Notes:

  • Applications from candidates holding an Egyptian master's degree in a technical field other than the one they are applying for will be considered.
  • Applications from candidates who already hold a master's degree from a foreign university or who hold an Egyptian master's degree in the same field they are applying for will not be considered.
  • Being selected as a candidate for the Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Programme does not guarantee university admission. Applicants will only be supported in applying to the accredited universities below. If you are nominated for the scholarship, you will be awarded the Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Programme scholarship upon receiving your university admission.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have not lived, worked, or studied abroad for a significant period of time.
  • The Onsi Sawiris Scholarship Program is only awarded to the list of approved universities.
