Eligibility criteria

To qualify for the Fulbright Egyptian Student Program, a candidate must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Required language:  English
  • Eligible countries:  Egypt. Egyptian nationality. Holders of a US green card and/or US passport are not eligible.
  • Applicants must be residing in Egypt throughout the application, selection and appointment process and prior to departure.
  • Bachelor's degree. A minimum grade of "Good" is required for applicants in American Studies and the Humanities and Social Sciences. A minimum grade of "Very Good" is required for applicants in the Sciences.
  • Proof of English language proficiency. Applicants must submit a score report from only one of the following tests: (See the table below for approved testing centers).
    • TOEFL ITP Test – Minimum score required is 550
    • TOEFL iBT Test – Minimum score required is 80
    • IELTS Academic or General Training Test - minimum overall score of 6.5 (no score required for each section)
  • Students applying to medicine, veterinary medicine, nursing, and dentistry should be aware that their master's programs cannot include clinical studies or direct contact with patients.
