The Catholic University of Leuven is offering a fully-funded scholarship for international students in the "Science in Leuven" program for the 2026-2027 academic year. This scholarship is available for master's studies and provides €12,000 to cover tuition fees, health insurance, and living expenses.

Scholarship coverage

The Catholic University of Leuven Scholarship offers its beneficiaries the following:

  • The scholarship amount can reach up to €12,000  for one year. The exact amount is determined by the Board of the Leuven Science Fund. The scholarship always covers tuition fees for one year, as well as basic health insurance. The amount of the scholarship varies to cover living expenses.
  • If a student receives a full scholarship of €12,000, it is advisable to bring some additional funds.
  • Most Master's programs at the College of Science are two-year programs. The scholarship is only extended into the second year if the student achieves outstanding results in the first year.

Eligibility criteria for the Catholic University of Leuven scholarship

To qualify for a KU Leuven scholarship, a candidate must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Required languages:  English (TOEFL score of at least 94 or IELTS score of at least 7).
  • Applicants must not have previously studied or worked at the University of Leuven.
  • Applicants must hold a Bachelor's degree from a foreign university that allows them access to the Master's program they are applying to.
  • - Applicants must not have obtained a master’s or doctorate degree yet.
  • Applicants must demonstrate excellent academic results during their previous training.
  • Applicants have demonstrated a strong motivation to pursue a Master's programme at the Faculty of Science at the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.
  • Applicants are willing to serve as ambassadors for the program.
  • Students who are awarded the scholarship will be required to sign a contract stating the conditions of admission.

How to apply for a scholarship at the Catholic University of Leuven?

Please follow the steps below to benefit from this scholarship:

1) Submit your application for the master's program of your choice via the application platform of the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven. Please read the application instructions  carefully.

(2) Upload the following information via the KU Leuven application tool:

  • A complete list of the course titles for which you have earned credit. Indicate the course size (in ECTS units) and the grade you obtained, preferably according to the ECTS scale. If a different scale is used, please provide a brief explanation of the meaning of the grades.
  • Provide a short description (about half to one page) according to the standard ECTS Study Guide guidelines of the courses you consider most relevant to the Master's degree you are considering,
  • - Two letters of recommendation from internationally renowned professors;
  • Motivational speech for the program.

(3) When you have completed your application for the Master’s program, a message will appear on the screen stating that you have successfully submitted your application.

Important! Take a screenshot of this message. You must upload the screenshot when you apply for the Science@Leuven scholarship.

(5) Your registration is completed after you receive an email indicating that you have registered for the Science@Leuven scholarship.

Important Notice

  • Only students who meet all of the above requirements will be considered for the scholarship!
  • You can apply for a scholarship immediately after applying to a specific program, without having to wait until you are accepted into a master's program. However, your scholarship application will not be considered if it turns out you are not accepted into the master's program.
