Applications are now open for the 2026 internship program at the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences (RIKEN IMS)  in Japan . This fully funded internship program  for international students lasts from one to three months . Students from all over the world are eligible to apply, and the program is open to Master's, PhD, and postdoctoral students . There are no application fees , and IELTS is not required. The internship program aims to provide participants with research experience in a world-class scientific environment within RIKEN's laboratories. Participants will be based in Yokohama, Japan , and will work under the supervision of a mentor at the RIKEN Center for Integrative Medical Sciences (IMS). For more details, please see below.

Program focus

The program aims to create a new research field for integrative medical science, which includes medical sciences at the genomic level, immunology and physiology, bioinformatics, molecular, biochemical and quantitative sciences.

Eligibility criteria

  • The training is available to all citizens.
  • Open to Master's, PhD or Medical students.
  • Open to young postdoctoral researchers who have not been out of their PhD for more than three years.
  • Applicants are required to be enrolled in an academic institution for the entire duration of the proposed training.

The application process for the RIKEN Institute of Management Science internship program:

Proposed research topic:

  • Once the lab agrees to host you, discuss your proposed research topic with the team leader.
  • Make sure your final research proposal is consistent with the research being conducted within the host laboratory.

  • Applications must be received no later than four months before the required start date of work.
