Beijing Government Scholarship 2025-2026 is a fully-funded scholarship for international students. The initial funding of the scholarship is 35 million yuan (5 million US dollars) from the Beijing Municipal Education Commission. The scholarship is classified into three categories, with the highest amount being 40,000 yuan (5,700 US dollars) for each recipient.

The Beijing Municipal Government has established a scholarship fund for foreign students and scholars in Beijing, the first of its kind offered by a city government in China. The scholarships are provided by the government, but individuals, companies, and organisations are encouraged to contribute to the scholarship fund in the future.

The Beijing Government Scholarship Program aims to attract more foreign students to study in Beijing so as to promote the internationalisation of higher education in Beijing.

Beijing Government Scholarship Duration

  • Applicants for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees at Chinese universities and colleges in the Beijing area: The scholarship duration must be less than 4 years.
  • Applicants for Chinese language training or related advanced studies at Chinese universities and colleges in the Beijing area: The scholarship duration must be less than one year.
  • International researchers and students for specialised training at Chinese universities and colleges in the Beijing area: The scholarship duration must be less than one year.
  • Exchange students or students who have outstanding contributions to international education in Beijing: The scholarship duration must be less than one year.

Scholarship Coverage

Beijing Municipal Government Scholarship for International Students covers tuition fees only. According to the applicants' status, the allowance for scholarship recipients can be classified into 5 types:

  1. 40,000 RMB per year for PhD
  2. 30,000 RMB per year for a master's degree
  3. 20000 RMB/year/bachelor's degree
  4. 10,000 RMB/year for senior level training or long-term language program
  5. 5,000 RMB per year for exchange students or students with outstanding contributions to international education in Beijing.

Eligibility Criteria for Beijing Government Scholarship

To qualify for a Beijing Government Scholarship, a candidate must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Required languages: The language proficiency requirement for an applicant depends on the requirements of the academic programmes and is determined by the individual higher education institution.
  • Eligible countries: All countries in the world except Chinese citizens.
  • Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens and in good health.
  • Applicants for undergraduate studies in Beijing must have completed high school with good grades and be under the age of 30.
  • Applicants for Master's degree studies in Beijing must have a bachelor's degree and be under 35 years old.
  • Applicants to study for a doctoral degree in Beijing must have a master's degree and be under the age of 40.
  • Applicants for postgraduate studies must have an undergraduate degree or be in the second year of a university course and be under the age of 50.
  • Applicants for long-term language studies must have a high school diploma and be under 60 years of age.
  • Candidates for visiting researchers in Beijing must have a master's degree or higher or hold academic titles such as associate professor or higher and be under 50 years old.
  • Meet the admission requirements of the university and the program applied for.
  • Applicants may not be recipients of a Chinese Government Scholarship at the same time.

How do I apply for the Beijing Government Scholarship?

  2. Once you have selected any university located in Beijing, visit that university's website in Beijing for "International Students" and select the "Scholarships" tab.

  4. List of documents required for Beijing Municipal Government Scholarship:
    • Beijing Municipal Government Scholarship Application Form (can be obtained from institutions in Beijing or downloaded from the school website )
    • Highest certificate and transcript (certified copy).
    • A copy of the Foreigner Physical Examination Form (printed by the Chinese Quarantine Authority and only for those whose study period in China is six months or more).
    • Applicants for degree study or specialist research must submit a study plan (no more than 400 words) or a research plan (no more than 800 words).
    • Applicants for music and fine arts are required to submit personal works.
    • Applicants under 18 years old must provide legal documents of their legal guardians in China.
  1. Applicants submit documents to the Chinese government office responsible for sending international students to China, relevant offices in the applicants' home country, or Chinese diplomatic missions or embassies in the applicants' home country.
