The Emile Boutmy Scholarship 2026-2027 is a fully-funded scholarship offered by Sciences Po in France. International students from all over the world are eligible to apply. This scholarship is applicable to undergraduate, master's, and doctoral studies. The Emile Boutmy Scholarship provides up to €19,000 per year.

The Bachelor's programs at the Institute of Political Science offer a three-year curriculum focused on the social sciences. These programs are available to students holding a baccalaureate (or its foreign equivalent) and lead to a Bachelor's degree. The Graduate Schools at the Institute of Political Science offer two-year programs leading to a Master's degree in various professional disciplines.

Scholarship coverage

The Emile Boutmy Scholarship will provide the following benefits:

University stage:

The Emile Boutmy Scholarship is awarded to incoming students at Sciences Po in their first year of study.
The Emile Boutmy Program can take several forms:

  1. A scholarship of €7,300 per year for three years of the undergraduate program, plus a grant to cover part of the living costs of €5,000 per year.
  2. A scholarship of €7,300 per year for three years of the Bachelor's programme.
  3. A scholarship of 5,000 euros per year for three years of the Bachelor's programme.
  4. A scholarship of 3,000 euros per year for three years of the Bachelor's programme.

Exceptionally, you may be awarded a scholarship of €19,000 to cover three years of undergraduate study. The value of the scholarship is determined by the various admissions committees.
If the academic year is not approved, the scholarship will be forfeited.
If you are awarded a scholarship and decide to defer your admission, the scholarship will be forfeited.

Global Study Abroad Programs

During the academic year abroad (third year of the undergraduate programme): Scholarship holders will retain their tuition fee grant and additional living cost grant (if applicable).

Master's:

The Emile Boutmy Scholarship is awarded to incoming students at Sciences Po in their first year of study. The Emile Boutmy Program is available in two formats:

Global Study Abroad Programs

  1. A grant of €10,000 per year to cover tuition fees for two years of the Master's degree
  2. A scholarship of 5,000 euros per year for two years of the Master's degree.

If you do not approve your academic year, you will forfeit your scholarship. If you are awarded a scholarship and decide to defer your admission, you will forfeit your scholarship.

Eligibility criteria for the Emile Boutmy Scholarship

To qualify for the Emile Boutmy Scholarship, a candidate must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Required language:  English
  • Eligible countries: All countries of the world

Ineligible students are:

Global Study Abroad Programs

  • Swiss and Norwegian applicants, as they may be eligible for CROUS scholarships
  • Candidates with dual nationality, including EU nationality
  • Candidates from Quebec applying for a master's degree (where they can benefit from sliding-scale fees like European applicants) and candidates from Quebec applying for a bachelor's degree are eligible.
  • Applicants for dual master's degrees are only eligible for the following dual degrees:
    • Dual Degree in Journalism from the School of Political Science/Columbia University
    • Dual Degree from Fudan University/Political Sciences with a Focus on Europe and Asia in Global Affairs (Applicants with Chinese Nationality Only)
    • Double Degree from University of Political Science/Peking University (Applicants with Chinese nationality only)
  • PhD students (thesis)
  • Candidates for one-year master's programs
  • Candidates for a dual bachelor's degree (unless part of a specific agreement)
  • exchange students
  • Candidates who apply through the French graduate admission procedure
  • Candidates cannot apply for the joint CSC scholarship and the Emile Boutmy Simple scholarship.

Global Study Abroad Programs

The Emile Boutmy Scholarship cannot be combined with other scholarships (Eiffel Scholarship, AEFE Scholarship, BGF Scholarship, etc.) unless the jury decides otherwise.

This scholarship is awarded based on merit and qualifications required for the program, taking into account social criteria.

This scholarship is not automatically awarded: candidates must indicate their willingness to apply directly in their online Bachelor's or Master's application form.

  1. Students must indicate that they are applying for an Emile Boutmy Scholarship in the "Financial Information" section of their application to Sciences Po.
  2. Please note that we may ask applicants to provide proof of income and documents demonstrating their marital status (e.g., income tax returns for both parents, payroll, divorce certificate, unemployment benefits, documents related to alimony, child support or pensions, death certificate, etc.).
  3. Applicants must also attach their language test, if required, before the scholarship application deadline.
  4. The Admissions Department is responsible for administering the Emile Boutmy Scholarships. Please note that your scholarship application will only be considered if you are accepted into one of our eligible programs.
