Practitioners as well as scholars will work on specific democracy-related projects. The projects have to be centred around the legal, cultural, political, social, and economic facets of democratic development.
Both practitioners and scholars can apply for five-month fellowships through the Reagan Fascell Democracy.
Practitioners Track: This track allows individuals from developing countries to learn and develop more effective strategies for promoting democratic values and practices. Generally, mid-career professionals with some years of work experience should apply for the practitioner track. There are no specific degree requirements for the practitioner track, as well as no age limits.
Scholarly Track: Candidates must submit a well-defined research project, publications, and a doctorate to attest to their expertise.
Examples of Eligible Candidates for Practitioners Track
Human rights activists, leaders of civil society, politicians, human rights attorneys, members of parliament, labour union activists, journalists, and other media professionals fall under this category.
Examples of Eligible Candidates for Scholars Track
This includes college and university professors, analysts at research centres and think tanks, writers, and public intellectuals.
