Eligibility criteria for University of Otago scholarships
To qualify for a University of Otago scholarship, a candidate must meet all of the following requirements:
- Required language: English.
- Eligible countries: All countries of the world.
- Vice Chancellor's Scholarship for International Students
- International students who are not New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, or holders of a New Zealand or Australian residence visa*; and
- University admission was obtained through:
- Completed Year 12 and/or completed - or are in the process of completing - Year 13 at a New Zealand school, or an equivalent foundation level course at a New Zealand tertiary institution
- Completion of an internationally recognised qualification in New Zealand or at a secondary school overseas, such as A-Levels, International Baccalaureate or ATAR; or
- Meet other international entry requirements as outlined on the Otago website ; and

Vice Chancellor's Scholarship for International Students
The Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship for International Students is a scholarship for admission to the University of Otago. Therefore, please review the terms and conditions of the Entrance Scholarship for the conditions that typically apply to all Entrance Scholarships.
Although there is no application process for the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarship for International Students, students may be eligible for other admission scholarships and are therefore strongly encouraged to apply for other admission scholarships by the deadline.
University of Otago International Master's Research Scholarship
Scholarship applications are submitted online via the university's website. An invitation to apply is sent once the application for the relevant qualification has been completed. Applications can be submitted at any time and are usually attached to the application for the relevant qualification.
If the applicant is completing a master's degree that includes registering for research papers before registering for a thesis, the application should usually be submitted after completing those papers. An invitation will be sent upon completion of registration for the thesis portion of the master's degree.

PhD scholarship applications are submitted electronically via the eVision portal and can be submitted at any time of the year. Once you submit your program application, you will receive a notification on your student portal inviting you to apply for a scholarship.
