How to apply for the Fulbright scholarship for 2027?

Please follow the following step-by-step application procedures to apply for a Fulbright scholarship:

International Student Loans

(1) Submitting the application online

To apply for the Fulbright Program, you must compile a variety of documents to help the USEFP assess your qualifications. All documents must be submitted with your application.

(2) Preparing academic transcripts and certificates

Financial aid for students

All transcripts and certificates from a four-year bachelor's program or its equivalent, including three-year international bachelor's programs or ACCA certification, must be submitted. Applicants to the doctoral program must also submit their master's degrees in philosophy or science and their transcripts. You can also apply while in your final year of undergraduate studies, provided you receive your degree by December of this year.

The Fulbright Undergraduate Scholarship Program (USEFP) takes a holistic view of your academic record, going beyond just your GPA. The program considers the university you attended, the courses you took, and your performance in each course. It also takes into account the different grading systems used by universities. There is no minimum GPA requirement for application, although most successful Fulbright students have excellent undergraduate academic records. Undergraduate academic performance is one of the factors the Fulbright Commission uses to evaluate candidates.

(3) Passing the GRE General Test and the TOEFL Test

When submitting your application, you may provide your unofficial GRE score from the day of the test, or your official score if you have received it. Each applicant must request that ETS send the official score report directly to USEFP using code 9388. General (International) GRE scores are required with the application. A score of 315 or higher is considered suitable for engineering and science, and 310 or higher for other fields. The GRE subject-specific test is not required.

The minimum GRE score required to apply for a Fulbright scholarship is 138 in the verbal section and 136 in the quantitative section. However, successful applicants typically score in the top percentiles on the GRE. If you have taken the GRE multiple times, you can submit your best score, and Fulbright will consider only that score. A TOEFL score is not required for the initial application. You will need to take the TOEFL if you are invited for an interview. The IELTS score is not accepted.

The Fulbright grant application includes two essays. Each essay must be written within the space provided on the application form, which is approximately 800 words. Avoid lengthy essays and use clear language to help the Fulbright committee, who may not be familiar with your field, understand you better. Before you begin writing, you will need to develop a suitable marketing strategy. Successful applicants typically spend four to six weeks writing and refining their essays.

(5) Three letters of recommendation are required

You must submit three letters of recommendation with your application before the deadline. You can submit three academic letters of recommendation, two academic letters and one professional letter, or two professional letters and one academic letter. In other words, at least one academic letter of recommendation is mandatory. Your recommender must complete the recommendation forms included with your application, then sign, stamp, and place them in an envelope. Once you submit your application online, the electronic form will be emailed to your recommender.

There's no set rule for who should write your recommendations. Sometimes you can't ask your employer for them, and USEFP doesn't want to jeopardize your current job during the application process. Just look for people who know you well enough to write recommendations, such as a former employer, professor, or researcher.

(6) Preparing an academic CV

Please attach a current and up-to-date CV in the designated section of the application form. It does not need to be in a specific format. Please read this helpful article on how to prepare an outstanding academic CV for a scholarship application.

(7) Submitting the application online

There is no application fee for the Fulbright program. Applications must be submitted online.

(8) Interview

After you submit and review your written application, you may be invited for an interview. Interview decisions are made by mid-September, and interviews take place in October. If you do not receive a response from USEFP by October, you will automatically not be selected. The interview is a positive indicator of acceptance, but it does not guarantee it. Interviews last 15 to 30 minutes and are conducted by a panel of four people. You must bring your TOEFL registration receipt with you on the day of the interview; you do not need to have taken the TOEFL test before the interview.
